Musty House

Now that the warmer weather is here, you may notice that there is a musty smell throughout your house. Or, on the flipside, you’ve recently purchase a home and when you go to turn on the heating or cooling you suddenly notice that there is a smell that wasn’t there before. Obviously, the smell could be from any number of things, but one of the most common is a problem within the homes HVAC system.

When an HVAC system becomes old, musty odors can get trapped within. And when the HVAC system is turned on for the first time, after sitting dormant, those musty odors spread throughout the house via the ducts.

A blocked register, or an improper room layout can also cause condensation problems. Some homes with master suites are poorly ventilated between the bathroom and the bedroom.

If you believe the problem is due to the home’s HVAC system, then the first step is to change the filter. And if the smell continues, then it may be time to call the HVAC professionals at R and T Services to come out and inspect your HVAC system. An expert HVAC technician can determine both the source of the odor, and advise you on the health and possible longevity of your furnace.

And if your HVAC professional determines that your home’s furnace is at the end of its life, then it’s a perfect time right now, in the spring, when the furnace isn’t used frequently, to replace it. It’s a miserable experience to have an HVAC system suddenly quit in the exact time of year when it’s most needed.

If you have any questions about the HVAC services provided by R and T Services, or if you would like to schedule at time for a HVAC professional to come out and check/maintain on a suspicious odor or other HVAC issues, then call the professionals at R and T Services today.
